Motion Control is the art of using a computerized camera rig to precisely move the camera in a predetermined path in order to create the illusion of movement of the objects in the scene. The technique was perfected by John Dykstra and used extensively in the original Star Wars movies for the spaceship fly-by sequences. This short film explains how it was done.
