Stop Motion animation was one of the most realistic forms of special effects used in motion picture during a large part of the last century. Stop Motion animation was used in films like King Kong in the early 30’s and up to the 1980’s in films like The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. Stop Motion animation was the original choice for Jurassic Park, but CGI later toppled it. Ray Harryhausen is one of the pioneers of this art form.
